This Marijuana-Infused Wine Is A Trip

The idea of mixing cannabis with alcohol isn’t a new idea – we covered a “Secret Stash” beer in Colorado, and weed wine was trending last year, too. Canna Vine and Mary Jane Wines clocked in at around $400 a bottle, but California-based Rebel Coast Winery is releasing a more affordable ganja vino… around $60.

In fact, they’ll be the first to sell a cannabis-infused, alcohol-removed wine, once the new cannabis regulations go into effect in California. Cosmopolitan points out that since Proposition 64 passed, adults can legally use marijuana in California… and since this wine is alcohol-free, it can be legally shipped to and sold in dispensaries within the state.

The wine is a Sauvignon Blanc that’s been infused with roughly four milligrams of THC per serving. The effects take around 15 minutes to kick in, but you’ll feel high instead of drunk. And, as an added bonus, because the booze has been removed from the wine there’s no hangover!

“Our goal is not to kill you after you’ve had a few glasses. The goal is to get giggly and naked with someone. We set out to mimic the experience you’d find with traditional wine; a couple glasses will put most people in a great place,” says Rebel Coast.

The winery uses Sonoma County grapes, which are fermented traditionally before the alcohol is removed. The wine is then infused with organic THC and essential fragrant oils to enhance the aroma. With a bright, citrusy flavor and crisp taste, the Sauvignon Blanc will have notes of lemongrass, lavender and citrus.

The winery’s co-founder Alex Howe acknowledged that infused wine isn’t a new thing, “but no one developed a reliable method to remove the alcohol and infuse it with the cannabis’ active ingredients in a way that wasn’t impacting the quality of the wine.”

Rebel Coast has plans to release rose and sparkling versions, as well as a line of CBD wines created for medicinal benefits rather than psychotropic. Whatever your purposes, drinking this stuff will be a trip.
