A Crispy Chicken, Creamy Orzo Situation
👨🍳🧑🍳 Happy Thursday, Chefs!
We’re limping toward inbox zero over here, but absolutely refusing to surrender dinner in the process. 🍷
Tonight’s situation: crispy bacon-wrapped chicken roasted over leeks, herbs, white wine, and creamy orzo that soaks up every drop of those rich pan juices. Cozy dinner party energy without needing to destroy your entire kitchen on a Thursday night.
The best part? This is a whole roasted chicken, which means elite leftover potential if your BFFs, partners-in-crime, or random wine-loving house guests don’t demolish it first.
Honestly, this is the kind of meal that makes an ordinary weeknight feel suspiciously expensive.

🍋Fun Fact: Despite looking like rice, orzo is actually pasta. Italians often toss it into soups, but honestly? It thrives in buttery, wine-soaked comfort food situations.
Ingredients
1 whole chicken (spatchcocked or whole)
2 leeks, chopped
Fresh rosemary and sage
1 lemon, halved
4 cloves garlic, unpeeled
1/2 bottle of cheap white wine
GRAZA Olive oil
Salt and pepper
200g smoked bacon
300g orzo pasta
1 pint chicken stock
1 tblspoon Crème Fraîche
Step By Step
1️⃣ Build The Flavor Base
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Into a baking tray, toss the leeks, rosemary, sage, lemon halves, and garlic cloves like you’re building the foundation for an excellent bottle of white wine nearby. Pour half the bottle directly into the tray. The chicken gets the other half later. 🍷
2️⃣ Season Like You Mean It
Rub the chicken with olive oil, salt, and pepper, then settle it right on top of the leeks and herbs so everything underneath turns rich, jammy, and ridiculously aromatic.
3️⃣ Let The Oven Do The Heavy Lifting
Roast for about 50 minutes while the kitchen starts smelling like the kind of cozy dinner party nobody wants to leave.
4️⃣ Bring In The Bacon
Pull the tray from the oven, wrap the chicken in smoky bacon, and slide everything back in for another 15 minutes until the edges turn golden and crisp.
5️⃣ The Orzo Situation
Remove the bacon, then squeeze the roasted lemons and softened garlic straight into the tray. Add the orzo, chicken stock, and a generous spoonful of crème fraîche. Stir everything together into one glossy, cozy masterpiece.
6️⃣ One Final Roast
Back into the oven for 20 more minutes so the orzo can soak up every drop of those herby, winey chicken juices.
7️⃣ Serve Immediately
Bring the entire tray straight to the table, pour more wine, and pretend you casually make dinners like this on random weeknights all the time.
