Carvel Ice Cream Made Chocolate Beer

I’m a big fan of off-the-beaten-path beers. I can’t get enough of glitter beer, Krispy Kreme beer, or any of the candy-inspired beers. Appropriately, my jaw literally dropped when I saw that Carvel, the famous ice cream cake-maker, collaborated with a New York brewery to create a Fudgie the Whale-inspired beer. Mind. Blown.

If you’re not familiar, Fudgie the Whale is a Carvel icon. How can you go wrong with homemade ice cream, chocolate crunchies, milk chocolate fudge, and whipped frosting? Especially when it’s here just in time for Father’s Day?!

“Fudgie the Whale holds a special place in the hearts of many Americans, including, of course, fathers,” said Scott Colwell, president of Carvel, in a press release. “This year…we’re happy to give dad two of his favorite things: a Carvel ice cream cake and a unique handcrafted beer.”

Now, you can get a dose of nostalgia with a pint of limited edition “Fudgie the Beer,” which is reportedly a super rich and chocolatey stout. It’s available in cans and on draft at Captain Lawrence Brewery in Elmsford, New York. The brew is made with hints of Carvel chocolate and the brewery will also be pouring a special “Fudgie’s Father’s Day Float,” made with Carvel ice cream, the famous chocolate crunchies, and (of course) the beer.

Scott Vaccaro, head brewer at Captain Lawrence, added that “inspiration for ‘Fudgie the Beer’ grew from our nostalgic love for Carvel’s famous flavors. We made a creamy stout with hints of chocolate that fits naturally within the Captain Lawrence portfolio. And although the beer is a treat, it’s also very drinkable – something we’re sure everyone will enjoy sipping on while kicking back on Father’s Day.”

And if you can’t make it to Captain Lawrence’s, you can make a version of the signature float at home. Blend stout beer of your choice with four cups of Carvel’s Fudgie the Whale cake in a blender, then top it off with whipped cream and chocolate syrup.
